Alberta Express Entry Stream

Alberta is the fourth most populous province of Canada and also is the fastest-growing economies. Calgary is the largest city in Alberta province. Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is the Provincial Nominee Program of Alberta that nominates foreign nationals to obtain permanent residence in Alberta. When the province is in shortage of labour force, it has the power to choose foreign individuals with the right mix of skills and abilities to fill the shortages in Alberta. Alberta Express Entry program is run in partnership by the Alberta government with the Federal government of Canada. If any foreign individuals get nominated under this program, the concerned individual will have an option to apply for permanent residence status together with their spouse, common-law partner, dependent children or can apply only for themselves.

All the applications of permanent residence are managed by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Hence, the final decision will be taken by the federal government. Nominated individuals must meet all the federal check to be eligible for the permanent residence visa, which includes medical, security and criminal checks. The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program has three streams:

1. Alberta Opportunity Stream:

Under the opportunity stream, foreign individuals who are already working temporarily in Alberta can obtain the Canadian permanent residence provided they have a job offer from an employer in Alberta. The foreign nationals should also meet the eligibility requirements such as:

  • A pre-defined set of occupations are available in AINP. The applicant must be working in any of the eligible occupations. Jobs mentioned in level 0, A, B, C of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) are mostly eligible.
  • Candidate should possess valid temporary foreign worker status along with a valid work permit.
  • Candidate should have level 4 of Canadian Language Benchmark scoring in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
  • Candidate should have studied high school or any higher level of education.
  • Candidate should have at least one year of full-time experience in Alberta within the last three years or at least two years of work experience in Canada or abroad within the previous 30 months.

2. Alberta Express Entry Stream:

In Alberta Express Entry stream, the Government of Alberta will have the option to nominate a few numbers of qualified candidates from Canada’s Express Entry system. Foreign individuals who displayed a strong commitment to work in Alberta and those who can help and support the government’s plans will be asked to submit their applications under this program. Foreign graduates from Canadian post-secondary institutions are also eligible and can be asked to submit their applications under this stream. However, only those candidates who have been asked to apply are considered for the program.

With the available information from the Express Entry portal, Alberta will select the eligible candidates and offer them a Notification of Interest letter (NOI). Following requirements are needed, to receive a Notification of Interest letter

  • Should have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score of 300
  • Should be working in an occupation that helps and supports Alberta’s economic development
  • Should have shown interest in immigration to Alberta permanently.
  • Should have an active Express Entry profile.

The advantage of alberta pnp express entry program is, Express Entry individuals with CRS scores as low as 300 are invited to apply for the nomination. Additionally, if the candidate gets the provincial nomination under this stream, 600 additional CRS points are awarded to the candidate, along with an invitation to apply for permanent residence.

3. Self-Employed Farmer Stream:

This stream is aimed at bringing immigrants with extensive farm management experience to Alberta province. Successful candidates under this stream will receive the provincial nomination certificate, which can be used later to apply for permanent residence of Canada. Just like any other program, this stream also has specific eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants should be able to demonstrate the financial documentation of their previously existing farm business.
  • They should display the documentation of their education, training and previous work experience.
  • Should be ready with their proposed business plan for the farming enterprise that they are considering to start in Alberta.
  • ● Proof from a Canadian financial institution showing their willingness to finance their project.
