Nova Scotia PNP Requirements

With a population of 923,000, Nova Scotia is the most populous province of Canada’s three Maritime provinces and the Atlantic provinces. It is present in eastern Canada also the second smallest province by area. Halifax, the capital city, is the centre of attraction for culture and arts. Nova Scotia Express Entry Program or simply NSNP immigration is a program to welcome new candidates into the province. Foreign nationals with suitable skills and work experience are selected under this program and may receive a Nova Scotia Provincial Nomination Certificate. With the nomination, individuals can find their route to the permanent resident status of Canada. NSNP is operated under nine streams based on different occupations and skills. The nine streams under NSNP are:

    1. Nova Scotia Express Entry Stream:

    2. All four streams under Express Entry follows the federal government’s Express Entry selection mechanism. Candidates applying from the below four streams should have an active Express Entry profile. Candidates who receive a provincial nomination under one of the Express Entry-aligned streams will get an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System score and an invitation to apply for permanent resident status in further draws of the Express Entry pool.

        1. Nova Scotia Demand:

        2. Under this stream, the province can nominate eligible candidates for admission to Canada without any sponsoring employer. This stream is further divided into two categories. Category A requires a job offer from an employer in the province. Category B requires work experiences in any one of the occupations that are in-demand in Nova Scotia province. Candidates applying under this stream should have at least 67 points from the six selection factors. They are - education, ability in English/French, work experience, age, arranged employed in Nova Scotia, and adaptability. There are 11 occupations under the Nova Scotia Demand stream.

        3. Nova Scotia Experience:

        4. Immigrants who possess high skills and experience in Nova Scotia are eligible under this stream. The primary requirement for this is to have one year of experience in any of the level 0, A or B occupation listed in the National Occupational Classification. Other requirements are:

          • ● Should be between the age of 21 to 55 years old.
          • ● Should have completed high school graduation or equivalent education.
          • ● Language proficiency in English or French as per Canadian Language Benchmark scorings. Level 7 for skilled work in NOC 0 and A-type occupations. CLB level 5 for NOC B type occupations.

          In Nova Scotia Express Entry, This stream is designed to allow and invite specific occupations for immigration into the province. Requirements are:

          • ● Candidates should receive a Letter of Interest from NSNP.
          • ● Minimum work experience.
          • ● Should have legal status in the present country of residence.
          • ● Should be able to demonstrate enough funds to pay the immigration costs and travel expenses in the province.
        5. Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities for Physicians:

        6. This stream is specifically designed to allow the province to select those candidates who are qualified doctors from the Express Entry pool. The province targets only two occupations as per the National Occupational Codes. They are:

          • ● NOC 3112: Family Physicians
          • ● NOC 3111: Specialist Physicians

    3. Nova Scotia PNP : Skilled Worker:

    4. In Nova Scotia Express Entry, This stream targets foreign workers and international graduates. If there are any positions vacant and the province is unable to fill the positions with Canadian citizens or permanent residents, then the employers can access the candidates under this stream to fill the employment opportunities. A positive Labour Market Impact Assessment is needed before providing the nomination. Candidates should also meet other eligibility requirements. Requirements are:

      • ● Aged between 21 and 55 years.
      • ● Should have a full-time permanent job offer from an employer in Nova Scotia province.
      • ● Should have completed the high-school diploma.
      • ● Should have a minimum of level 4 score on the Canadian Language Benchmark scoring in either English or French, which is meant for semi-skilled or low-skilled workers.
      • ● Should demonstrate financial assets needed to settle in Nova Scotia.

    5. Physician:

    6. Under this stream, the province has the option to fix the employment gaps in the public health system by hiring general practitioners, family physicians, and specialist physicians.

    7. Occupations in Demand:

    8. Designed for intermediate-skilled jobs that are in high demand in the province. Some of the targeted occupations are nurse aides, orderlies, transport truck drivers, patient service associates. Requirements are:

      • ● Aged between 21 to 55.
      • ● A full-time permanent job offers from an employer in Nova Scotia province in one of the above occupations.
      • ● Should have completed a high-school diploma.
      • ● Should have a minimum of level 4 score on the Canadian Language Benchmark scoring in either English or French.
      • ● Should demonstrate financial assets needed to settle in Nova Scotia.

    9. Nova Scotia PNP : Entrepreneur:

    10. Candidates with businesses or senior management experience fall under this category. They must live in the province, to either start a business or purchase an existing business. Under this stream, only a temporary work permit is granted for one year. After successfully completing the day to day operations for one continuous year, candidates can apply for permanent residence. The selection process follows Express of Interest basis, in which candidates are invited to apply for an existing pool. Requirements are:

      • ● Aged above 21 years.
      • ● Intend to live permanently in the province while actively operating the owned business in the province.
      • ● Should have a minimum net worth of CAD 600,000.
      • ● Should make a minimum investment of CAD 150,000 to start or purchase a business in the province.
      • ● Should have at least three years of experience in operating the business.
      • ● Should have a minimum of level 5 score on the Canadian Language Benchmark scoring in either English or French

    11. International Graduate Entrepreneur:

    12. This stream is aimed only at recent graduates from a Nova Scotia University or community college. Candidates must have started or purchased a business and have operated for a year on the Post-Graduation Work Permit to be eligible under this stream. Requirements include:

      • ● Intend to live permanently in the province while actively managing the owned business in the province.
      • ● 100% ownership of the business is needed.
      • ● Should have completed a 2-year degree/diploma in a Nova Scotia university or community college.
      • ● Valid post-graduation work permit.
      • ● Should have a minimum of level 7 score on the Canadian Language Benchmark scoring in either English or French.
