Newfoundland and Labrador PNP Process

Present in the Atlantic region of Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador is the easternmost province of the country. More than 92% of the population lives on the island of Newfoundland. English is the most spoken language in the province, which is used by 97% of the community. Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program or shortly known as NLPNP is the immigration program to build a career in the province. Candidates with necessary skills are targeted by the province and may receive a Newfoundland and Labrador provincial nomination certificate. Using the nomination, eligible candidates can apply for permanent residence. The Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program accepts applications from qualified candidates under the following categories:

    1. Newfoundland Express Entry Skilled Worker:

    2. Under this category, Newfoundland and Labrador PNP nominates skilled and experienced candidates with job offers through the general Express Entry selection system of the federal government. The candidates need to have an active Express Entry profile. Successful candidates who are nominated will obtain 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System points and an invitation to apply for the permanent residence of Canada. Candidate must have a minimum of 67 points out of 100 on the Provincial Nominee Program’s point assessment grid. Other requirements include -

      • a) A full-time job offers from a Newfoundland and Labrador employer
      • b) Should have a Canadian work permit
      • c) Canadian post-secondary degree
      • d) Intention to settle in the province.

    3. Skilled Worker:

    4. In Newfoundland and Labrador PNP, Candidates who have already received a guaranteed job offer from a Newfoundland and Labrador employer can apply under this category. Candidates who are working in the province with a valid work permit are also eligible. This program helps the existing foreign nationals in Newfoundland to obtain permanent residency. This category does not follow the Newfoundland Express Entry selection mechanism. Requirements include -

      • a) A full-time job offers for at least two years.
      • b) Should be between the age of 21 to 59 years old
      • c) Valid work permit with at least four remaining at the time of application
      • d) Intend to settle permanently in the province.
      • e) These requirements are additional to language and educational skills.

    5. International Graduate:

    6. Recently graduated individuals from an eligible Canadian post-secondary institution and living in Canada on a Post-Graduate work permit can apply under this category.In Newfoundland and Labrador PNP, Candidates should be working or have a job offer from a Newfoundland and Labrador employer and those working only in the field of their study at the time of the application are eligible. Requirements include -

      • a) In Newfoundland Express Entry, Candidates should have completed at least half of their studies in Canada.
      • b) Graduation from an eligible publicly-funded college in Canada.
      • c) Should have a minimum of two-year diploma degree.
      • d) A full-time job offers for at least two years.
      • e) Should be between the age of 21 to 59.
      • f) Intended to settle permanently in the province.
      • g) Language proficiency in English or French.

    7. International Graduate Entrepreneur:

    8. International graduates who attended the post-secondary institutions of Newfoundland and Labrador and wanted to establish or run a business in the province are eligible to apply for permanent residence of Canada under this program. Requirements include -

      • a) At least 21 years old.
      • b) Should have at least a two-year full-time diploma degree.
      • c) Valid post-graduation work permit.
      • d) Should be able to create significant economic benefit while living and owning a business in Newfoundland and Labrador province.
      • e) Should be able to provide employment opportunities to at least one full-time local population.
      • f) Should score at least level 7 on the Canadian Language Benchmark scoring.

    9. International Entrepreneur:

    10. This category is aimed at experienced business owners or senior business investors who wish to continue their business career in the Newfoundland and Labrador PNP province.In Newfoundland Express Entry, Approved candidates must start a new business in the province and needs to involve actively in the day to day management of the business. Only after operating the business continuously for at least one year, the approved candidate will be nominated for permanent residence of Canada. Requirements include -

      • a) Age between 21 to 59 years.
      • b) Should have a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent education.
      • c) Intend to live permanently in Newfoundland and Labrador while actively managing the local business in the province.
      • d) Should have at least CAD 600,000 personal assets.
      • e) level 5 language proficiency in CLB.
